Colleagues from Texas Visit Czech Prison Service
In September 2025, the The Prison Service of the Czech Republic welcomed a delegation from Texas, consisting of representatives from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and Sam Houston State University. This visit marked another milestone in the enduring partnership between the Czech Prison Service, TDCJ, and Sam Houston State University that lasts over 10 years.
During their stay, the Texas delegation engaged in a comprehensive programme designed to foster the exchange of best practices and professional experience. The guests visited the Prison Service Headquarters, where they were introduced to the Czech correctional system and its unique approaches. The itinerary also included tours of three prison facilities, the Prison Service Academy, for staff members, the Czech Probation and Mediation Service, and the historic Prague Pankrác Prison Memorial.
This long standing collaboration has already shown tangible results: the TDCJ is currently building a new correctional staff academy in Texas, drawing inspiration from the Czech model and implementing best practices observed during previous exchanges. On the other hand, the Prison Service of the Czech Republic can draw inspiration from the Texas inmate peer programmes.
This ongoing cooperation highlights the value of international partnerships in advancing correctional services and promoting innovation.
The Prison Service of the Czech Republic looks forward to further strengthening this productive relationship in the years to come.
